A 'custom-made grinding belt' is a tailored belt solution in which the abrasive is precisely matched to the machine and application—primarily in terms of belt width and belt length. Depending on the system, the range extends from file belts, short and narrow belts to standard and long belts, up to wide belts.

Technically decisive is the belt closure: backings made of paper, fabric or film are typically adhesively bonded at an angle and implemented as butt or overlapped joints. Depending on the application, different belt-closure variants are used—for example, overlapped joints or butt-bonded versions, sometimes with reinforced film and a grain-free or dressed grain zone for a perfect belt run.
